from Tea Tree in Tasmania literally left many a battered male ego in her path as
she blew her opposition away to become the first female to win the Cradle
Mountain Chateau Kentish Triple Top in the eighteen year history of the race. To
rub salt into the wounds her winning margin to the next place getter, last years
winner Clarence Blake, was a crushing 3 minutes 55 seconds. Bill Boards which
read, “Super Hanny Cleans UP” sat out in front of newsagents around
Tasmania. It is very rare indeed for a female to beat the men
home in an event like this. Blake was a most gracious loser and was quick to
heap praise on Hanny saying, “There was nothing I could do to catch Hanny
today, she’s truly world class. Her performance was extra ordinary.” Allston is in contention for selection for Australia as
a marathon runner at next years’ Commonwealth Games in Dehli. Competitors from Queensland, N.S.W., Vic., and Canada
were among the 191 starters in the walking and running sections. Trent Lowry, the nineteen year old runner from Railton
put up a sensational effort to be the first local home, finishing in 8th
place overall. Father Gerard 43rd runner and brother Ricky the 2nd
walker home were also prominent in a magnificent family effort. Cradle Mountain Chateau continues to show that it is a
good corporate citizen of Kentish by continuing to support the event. Bus drivers, Sam Kelly, Leonie Lawson and Carl Cox
transported the competitors from the Claude Road Hall to the start at Round
Mountain. This very generous assistance was much appreciated. David Martin, chairman of the Claude Road Hall
Committee, worked tirelessly to have this local resource spic and span for the
day. Several comments by our visitors were made regarding the quaintness and the
fact that such an icon was still available for use in this day and age. The Kentish Council deserves recognition for support
with sponsorship and in kind assistance. Our Council has been positive and
helpful over the 18 year history of the event. Thank you Kentish Council. The local S.E.S. lead by Richard Elliott are the key to
the race, the event could not take place without the help of this magnificent
group of people. Competitors continue to comment on the great expertise of our
S.E.S. group as they look after particularly the safety aspect and welfare of
the runners and walkers. Over 100 local volunteers helped in many areas from
track marking and clearing to participant hospitality. We live in a special
community. The Lions Club of Kentish as race organizers are proud
of the Triple Top Run and find satisfaction in the fact that it is now a
nationally recognized sporting event, showcasing Kentish and giving athletes a
challenging experience. Lion Frank Atkins Details : Cradle Mountain Chateau Kentish Triple Top run.
