Cradle Mountain Chateau Kentish Triple Top Mountain Run

 

Sean Clauson of Hobart broke his bridesmaid status with a victory in the Cradle Mountain Chateau Kentish Triple Top Mountain Run in a time of 2 hours 12 min 08 sec. After five starts in the race, and two previous top three places, Sean joined former two times winner brother Kris to win the challenging mountain run.

100 courageous athletes braved persistent rain conditions to traverse the 19.7km of bush tracks and three Kentish mountain peaks in the Cradle Mountain Chateau Kentish Triple Top Mountain Run.

Setting off from the Mt. Claude look out, the serious contenders soon separated themselves from the weekend warriors with a leading group of 5 asserting a significant early break.

While Clauson set the early pace, he lost the lead after falling in the slippery conditions, suffering a nasty cut to his knee.

The race was tightly fought out with less than a minute separating the first three place getters. Clauson , Hobart took the title in a time of (2.12.08), ahead of Allan Hood , Hobart (2.12.44) and Mick Purton of Turners Beach (2.13.18) Paul Mooney of Launceston in a time of (2.19.32) Clauson, Hood and Purton were also top four finishers in last years race.

Clauson had a busy weekend after also competing in Saturdays Tullah Challenge.

Grace Elson, national middle distance and sprint orienteering title holder was the first female to finish in a time of (2.34.23), from Anna Povey (3.18.35) and Tracey Bassett (3.18.45)

An especially rousing applause was reserved for adventurer brothers 85 year old Delden Badcock, and 76 year old Neville Badcock who started in the Walking section.
